Shrine to Our Lady of Wexford, Rocklands

The Shrine at Rocklands is set amid rocks on the Wexford – Rosslare – Kilmore road just outside Wexford town.

It was blessed by Dr Staunton, Bishop of Ferns on Mon 30th May 1955. About 6,000 people attended the ceremony that evening.

Rosary and Benediction were followed by a torchlight procession to the Church of the Assumption, Bride Street.

The Statue of our Lady is a life-size figure in Carrara marble, made in Italy which was erected in Rocklands by Hughes of Wexford. The land was a gift of Dr Peadar J. Sinnott Rockland’s House.

Public donations defrayed the cost and the surroundings of the shrine of “Our Lady of Wexford” are now and always have been maintained voluntarily by local people.

Prayer

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
